Associate General Manager

New York, NY

KGM Theatrical provides general management services to commercial productions in New York, on tour, and across the country. Select projects include Rock of Ages, Heathers, Slava’s Snow Show, Blue, Windows, MacGyver the Musical, and Born For This.

KGM is looking for a full-time Associate General Manager to join our growing general management team.

At KGM we have a human first culture. Human hours, human time off, and human flexibility. We prefer calm thoughtful work to reactive work. We believe 40 hours a week is a good amount of time to devote to one’s job. We respect nights and weekends. We believe there should be time to take care of our families, children, and loved ones. We love the work, but we believe we function at our best when we have balance and time to breathe.

At KGM we rely on the written word. Instead of long meetings and endless video calls, we primarily communicate in writing. A thoughtful write-up is worth ten Zoom meetings. Plus, nothing gets lost in translation. There’s always a record so others on the team can dip in and out of projects and know exactly where things stand.

We’re known for using technology to help us stay organized and promote a calm focused workplace. But apps and technology can never replace the human connection we forge with our clients.

We do things a little differently at KGM and we’re looking for someone who wants to go along for that ride.

You like to teach, write and budget. You’ll work on budgeting complex $16 million dollar Broadway musicals but also clever shows that want to rewrite some rules. You’ll negotiate contracts and help our first time producing clients learn the ropes of theater. To do this effectively you’ll need to come in with extensive first-hand knowledge of how a Broadway musical is produced, enough patience to coach our clients, and a desire to create plans and see them through to completion.

You’re a doer. Someone who is either already at the Associate CM or Assistant GM level, worked on a number of Broadway shows, knows their stuff inside and out and can be an exceptional facilitator. This person would oversee daily GMing responsibilities at KGM from contracts to budgets, while walking our clients through the ins and outs of producing (eg. explaining royalty pools!).

You’re an outstanding people person. The outgoing not bashful type who can pitch, take coffees, attend readings and represent KGM out in the field.

The Associate GM will be very client facing and need to engage with and earn the trust of our producing clients.

Qualifications? We don’t look at where you went to school, if you went to school or what degrees you may have. However, due to the nature of this role, a minimum of five to seven years of prior experience in commercial general management is a must.

  • Extensive experience budgeting large Broadway musicals and plays
  • Robust experience negotiating and drafting Broadway contracts, including for Directors, Designers, Orchestrators and other above-the-line talent
  • Extensive knowledge level and familiarity with work rules of the 17 unions that represent Broadway onstage and offstage talent
  • Having a strong opinion on not just how shows can save money but also line items that are worth every penny, and being able to sell that opinion to clients and partners.
  • Managing, massaging and hand holding business critical client relationships.
  • The ability to clearly communicate your ideas.
  • Managing teams.

We write a lot about our culture. Here’s a sampling of that writing:

This is a full-time salaried position and may include work on some nights and weekends. Perks include paid time off, home internet reimbursement, and home office setup stipend.

$75,000 to $100,000 depending on relevant experience.
